Gas Permeable Lenses

Very durable lenses allowing more oxygen through to your eye

Gas Permeable lenses transmit oxygen around the eye, preventing dryness and allowing you to wear lenses throughout the day and night.

Made of a rigid and durable plastic, these lenses are also used to correct conditions such as keratoconus.

Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) lenses require an adaptation period before they become as comfortable to wear as soft contacts.

Not recommended for sports wear.

  • Sharper vision as they retain their shape when you blink
  • Extremely durable and not torn easily
  • Do not contain water - protein and lipids from tears do not adhere to GP lenses
  • Gas permeable contact lenses can last for years

Scleral Lenses

Used to correct Keratoconus and often prevent the need for a corneal graft

If you can't wear conventional contact lenses due to an irregular cornea or other problems, scleral contact lenses are a possible alternative for frame-free eyewear.

Resting on the 'white' of the eye (the sclera), scleral lenses are specifically designed to cover the entire corneal surface and replace the irregular cornea with a smooth optical surface.

  • Helps to correct vision problems such as keratoconus and other corneal irregularities
  • Space between cornea and lenses acts as a fluid reservoir to provide comfort for severe dry eyes

Important information:

Remember that you must only use the lenses as directed by your optician and the instructions supplied with the lenses.

Lenses must be removed before sleeping, unless they are specifically intended for extended wear.

Jarvis Optometrists are a registered Acuvue Centre of Excellence and undergo continued training to provide you with the most accurate and up-to-date contact lens advice.
